The program consists of 42 weeks of intensive experience on the E/CC service at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Assigned shifts will focus on the emergency service, although a limited number of weeks will be allocated to the critical care service. The successful applicant will have primary case responsibility during this time for those cases, as well as secondary responsibility for the other cases housed within the ER, ICU and general patient care areas. The ECC intern will be expected to assist with the clinical teaching of 3rd and 4th year veterinary students, as well as the rotating interns. Many of the shifts will include weekends and/or evenings. The intern is expected to attend 2-4 hours of CE/week.
The remaining 8 weeks of the program will include 2 weeks of vacation, and 6 weeks on out-rotations of the successful candidate’s choice, with available out-rotations including medicine, surgery, cardiology, anesthesia, exotics, dermatology, pathology and diagnostic imaging. If preferred, instead of the out-rotations, a 6 week out block for independent research may be coordinated and scheduled. The hospital has a dress code.
The applicant should submit his or her application through AAVC‘s Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Theresa O’Toole.
